At a meeting of the Government of Kazakhstan, Transport Minister Marat Karabayev said that in 10 months of 2024, the volume of cargo transportation increased by 3.5%, reaching 263.4 million tons. This result was achieved thanks to active measures to optimize logistics processes and investments in transport infrastructure.
According to the plans of the Ministry of Transport, it is planned to transport 310 million tons of cargo by the end of the year. This is an ambitious goal that reflects the growing needs of the economy and strategies to increase cargo traffic.
The Minister noted a significant increase in the volume of domestic traffic. In the first 10 months of this year, this indicator increased by 10.8% and amounted to 156.2 million tons. For comparison, 141.2 million tons were transported in the same period in 2023. The domestic market continues to show steady growth, driven by an increase in industrial production, expansion of agricultural activities and modernization of logistics processes.
Particular attention is paid to improving the quality of services provided in domestic transport. Thanks to the introduction of digital technologies and process automation, transport management has become more efficient. This has resulted in shorter delivery times and increased reliability of logistics operations.
According to Marat Karabayev, the volume of transit cargo transportation remained at the level of last year, amounting to 22.4 million tons. This indicator shows stability despite external economic challenges.
Container transit, on the contrary, showed positive dynamics. The increase was 7.5%, which indicates an increased interest in Kazakhstan as an important link in the international transport chain. For 10 months of 2024, one million 156 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) were transported, while for the same period in 2023, this figure was equal to one million 75 thousand TEU.
Containerization of cargo is one of the key areas of development of the logistics sector. This allows you to reduce costs, increase the speed of cargo handling and improve their safety. Modernization of container terminals continues, which expands their capacity and increases the country's competitiveness in the field of transit transport.
As part of the state program for the development of the transport industry, Kazakhstan is actively investing in the construction of new highways, reconstruction of railways and modernization of port facilities. These measures are aimed at improving transport links both within the country and on international routes.
The increase in traffic volumes was made possible by improving conditions for transport companies, which include access to new routes and simplification of procedures. Work is underway to improve logistics hubs and introduce modern traffic flow management systems.
The Ministry of Transport continues to work actively on the development of logistics infrastructure and increase traffic volumes. Special attention is paid to domestic transportation, transit potential of the country and modernization of container terminals. These steps are aimed at improving the capacity and quality of transport services in Kazakhstan.
The development of digital technologies, such as real-time cargo monitoring systems and process automation, is expected to drive further growth in the sector. Kazakhstan remains a strategically important transit corridor connecting East and West, which opens up new opportunities for attracting international cargo flows.
