Kazakhstan is a strategic hub of Eurasian transport corridors

Kazakhstan has unique opportunities for connecting major transport corridors in Eurasia. Alexander Zaboev, Head of the Center for Integration Studies of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), noted the prospects of the North–South corridor and stressed the importance of three key areas that ensure its success.

Developing trade with the Persian Gulf and India regions

The first key factor is the strengthening of Kazakhstan's trade relations with the Persian Gulf countries and India. The potential in these areas is growing, and the promotion of the North-South corridor opens up new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Growth of transit potential in the transportation of Chinese goods

The second aspect concerns increasing the transit potential of Kazakhstan, especially in the transportation of Chinese goods not only to Europe, but also on other routes. The East–West and North–South corridors have common ground, which makes their interaction efficient and cost-effective.

Development of intraregional trade and cooperation with Afghanistan

The third component is the development of trade within the region and with neighboring countries, including Afghanistan. Strengthening economic cooperation in this area opens up additional prospects for Kazakhstan, allowing it to strengthen the role of the republic as a transport hub.

According to Zaboev, the North–South corridor has not yet been fully developed, but its importance for Kazakhstan is becoming more and more obvious, which is confirmed by the above-mentioned areas of development.
